College and Career Sunday School Class WHAT IS GODLINESS? Sunday School Week 10 Contentment Continued Remember how we ended last week? Question: does the Bible’s teaching about contentment with possessions teach that we should pursue a simplified, basic lifestyle? READING: Should Christians have bank account? Continuing our discussion about CONTENTMENT Contentment with Position The “body with many members” metaphor tells us a few things about our place in this world: 1. We do have a place. God has given each of us gift(s). 2. We must discover our gifts thru prayer and discipleship. We cannot pick a position in the body of Christ based on ambition and pursue it. This conflicts with the world’s idea of personal achievement. 3. We need each others’ gifts. We need to be content with our position as a member of Christ’s body. How do we do that? By acknowledging God’s sovreign grace in choosing us for our position. Four realizations: 1. Jeremiah 29:11 I am not here by chance, but as part of a good and loving plan devised in my own interest. 2. Ephesians 3:8 I don’t deserve what I have, but receive it through God’s grace. 3. Ephesians 4:16 I know that every part of the body is indispensible to its functioning – thus I am indespensible to the cause of Christ. 4. Ephesians 2:10 My work has already been cut out for me.
